Flow < x > Control
These are incomparable.

Trust < = > Flow
More trust, more flow.
More flow wore trust.

Fear < = > Control
More fear, more control.
More control, more fear.

Each chooses, moment to moment.

Organizational Aikido

May 17th, 2013 · No Comments

Whatever is human requires continuous connection, conversation and touch. Whenever the scale of an organization of humans gets too large for human connection and touch it necessarily becomes mechanical, inhuman and anti-democratic. Beyond the scope and scale where human touch and connection are possible the people in the system are necessarily serving the mechanism.
Representative governments are anti-democratic and their scope of decision-making should be as limited as possible.
There are emergent properties of large human organizations that are very destructive to the human spirit of the participants.

This wisdom is included in Eleanor Ostrom’s work on governing common pool resources.
